Obituary: Robert “Bobby” L. Brauer

Robert “Bobby” L. Brauer, 74, of Sturgeon Bay, died at his home Friday July 5, 2024.

He was born Jan. 19, 1950 in Sturgeon Bay along with his twin sister, Karen, children of the late George and Helen (Kozlowski) Brauer. His parents would buy the V-Bar in Valmy and their father, George died at a very early age with Mom continuing to run the tavern business while raising her children. Bobby graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1968.

Shortly after graduation he worked for Felhofer’s Garage in Sturgeon Bay where he started his education in auto body work. Bobby then worked at Rodewald Buick Autobody in Sheboygan for a few years before returning to Sturgeon Bay to work at Palmer Johnson Yachts and Sturgeon Bay Yacht Harbor. He would open his own business, Family Hobbies of Door County and Dog Kennels on his property. He will be remembered as a talented artisan who focused his career in the marine industry.

Bobby was a talented musician. He was a self-taught guitarist, could play many different pieces, and composed music. He built his own 31’ sailboat which he sailed from Sturgeon Bay to Florida and throughout the Gulf of Mexico. Bobby had raced snowmobiles and played with Modern Day Drifters Country Band.

Survivors include his twin sister, Karen (Steve) Jenkins of Sturgeon Bay; six nephews and their families.

Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Charles and Eugene; and his nephew, Randy.

A memorial gathering will be held at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay, Monday, July 29, 2024 from 4 to 7 p.m. Burial will be beside his parents at S.S. Peter &  Paul Cemetery, Institute.
