Obituary: Robert Joseph ‘Hunse’ Mickelson

Robert Joseph “Hunse” Mickelson, 86, of Kenosha, formerly of Sturgeon Bay, died peacefully early Wednesday morning, November 30, 2016 at Library Terrace Assisted Living in Kenosha.

He was born August 22, 1930 in Sturgeon Bay, the son of Henry Bernard Mickelson and Hilda Devota (Schaefer) Mickelson. Bob grew up attending St. Joseph Catholic Church and School in Sturgeon Bay. He served with the United States Navy until 1951.

Bob returned home to Sturgeon Bay upon his discharge from the Navy and was united in marriage to Kathryn Ellen Hitt on June 23, 1951 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. They were blessed with over 52 years of marriage together. She preceded him in death on December 10, 2003.

Bob worked for Peterson Builders, Bay Shipbuilding, Simons, and AMC Chrysler where he was a supervisor of skilled trades.

While living in Sturgeon Bay, he was most recently a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Sturgeon Bay and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Bob enjoyed gardening and loved woodworking and had Hunse’s Woodshop where he enjoyed his many talents.

He will be missed by his four children, Debra (Edward) Wytonick of Racine, Darel Mickelson, John Mickelson of Yellville, Arkansas, and Marsha (Bob) Rosmann Jr. of Kenosha; four grandchildren, Richard (Regina) Wytonick of Racine, Robert (Sandy) Mickelson of Burlington, Joshua (Beth) Rosmann, and Cassandra Rosmann, all of Kenosha; seven great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Janet M. Mickelson and Lois Mickelson, both of Sturgeon Bay.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; grandsons, Robby Rosmann and Michael Wytonick; brothers, Omer H. Mickelson and Eugene B. “Pete” Mickelson; and sister, Viola Klotz.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday, December 5, 2016 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Sturgeon Bay with Fr. Carl Schmitt and Fr. Anthony Birdsall concelebrating. Burial with military honors by the United States Navy and the Weber-Tess AMVETS Post 51 will follow at Bayside Cemetery.

Memorials may be given in Robert’s honor for St. John Bosco Catholic School in Sturgeon Bay or Hospice Alliance of Pleasant Prairie.
