Obituary: Rodney “Rod” C. Bohn

Rodney “Rod” C. Bohn Rodney “Rod” C. Bohn, 81, of Sturgeon Bay, died suddenly Thursday evening, September 17, 2015, at Ministry Door County Medical Center after suffering an apparent stroke early Thursday.

He was born May 1, 1934, in Centuria, Wisconsin, the son of the late Elmer Victor and Lucille Emma (Grossman) Bohn. Rod was a graduate of U.W. Madison School of Pharmacy and later received his Master’s degree in Education. On June 21, 1957, he married Eileen A. Hunziker in Madison on graduation day.

Rod wrote:

I was fortunate to be born to a supporting mother and dad and live these many years with a supportive wife and family throughout this adventurous journey of life.

Rod owned and operated several businesses in Sturgeon Bay, the pharmacy known as Bohn’s Drug Store, Bohn Pharmacy and the Apothecary, and the Open Door gift shop. He was also a partner in the Apothecary in Kewaunee and had the Foxy Lady clothing store in Green Bay.

Rod enjoyed learning and serving with various organizations including the American Pharmacy Association, Wisconsin Pharmacist Association, American Society of Consultant Pharmacists, Wisconsin Pharmacy Examining Board, Wisconsin Public Health Association, Northeast Wisconsin Health System Agency, AARP, Coalition of Wisconsin Aging Groups, American Civil Liberties groups, Door County Learning in Retirement, Wisconsin Master Gardeners Associations, and the Democratic Party of Wisconsin.

He shared his love of cooking with his family, a love all three sons continue to share with their families. Rod also loved gardening and especially raising orchids.

He will be greatly missed by his dear wife, Eileen of Sturgeon Bay; three sons, Marc Bohn and his wife, Caroline Fenn of Portland, OR, Nels Bohn and his wife, Ann Reichlin of Ithaca, NY, Peter Bohn and his wife, Nina Cohen Bohn of London, UK; and seven grandchildren, Calvin, Nathaniel, Eleanor, Simon, Eva, Dexter, and Coleman.

Rod is survived by his sister, Kay (Bohn) Smith and her husband, Jim Smith of Milwaukee.
