Obituary: Roger Kenneth Espe

Roger Kenneth Espe, 71, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away at Ministry Door County Medical Center on March 8, 2016.  He was born on April 14, 1944, in Rockford, IL to Kenneth and Anna (Carlson) Espe.  Roger was a 1962 graduate of East High School in Rockford.  He graduated from Waldorf College, Forest City, IA and Illinois State University with a degree in Elementary Education.

Roger taught 5th and 6th grades in Winnebago, IL at Thompson Elementary and Eisenhower Middle School in Rockford IL.  He moved his family to Sturgeon Bay in 1976, along with a barn from Rockford and assembled it on Sawyer Harbor.  After moving to Sturgeon Bay, Roger owned and operated several businesses including Champion Builders, Bayland Sports Store, and Espe Painting.  Roger loved to spend his time fishing.

Survivors include three children, Kim (Greg) Jacobson, Sturgeon Bay; Jill (Kurt) DeGrave, Brussels; Jeff (Valerie) Espe, Sturgeon Bay; ten grandchildren, Josh, Nick, Matt, Nate, Jordan, Julia, Jessica, Tristan, Taylor, and Tommy; three great-grandchildren; and special friend, Donna Bazille, Sturgeon Bay.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Tom Espe; and one grandchild, Robert DeGrave.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 12, 2016, at Bay View Lutheran Church with Timothy Malek officiating.  Burial will be in Hainesville Cemetery.
