Obituary: Ruby Lucile Lemburg

October 2, 1925 ~ June 11, 2022

Ruby Lucile Lemburg, 96, of Sister Bay, died Saturday evening, June 11, 2022 at Good Samaritan Society-Scandia Village in Sister Bay.

She was born October 2, 1925 in Davenport, IA, the daughter of Raymond R. and Ella Lucinda (Denker) Rohlfs. Ruby grew up on her family’s farm, ran barefoot, hunted muskrats, and eventually graduated from Davenport Central High School with the class of 1943. She was united in marriage to Wayne Arlo Lemburg on June 26, 1947 in Davenport. Ruby introduced Wayne to good times and fun living.

She worked throughout her life as a secretary, bookkeeper, conference planner and full-time mother and homemaker. Ruby and Wayne retired to Door County in 1987 and lived near Kangaroo Lake in Baileys Harbor. She traveled extensively around the world with Wayne but considered Door County her home. They eventually moved into Good Samaritan Society-Scandia Village in 2010. Ruby and Wayne were blessed with over 70 years of marriage. He preceded her in death on September 9, 2017.

Ruby enjoyed gardening, quilting, birds, squirrels, and looking after her cats Henry and Charlie. She had a love of nature that she instilled in her children. Ruby was an avid supporter of the Door County Humane Society. Ruby and Wayne worked together serving the Door County Historical Society at Eagle Bluff Lighthouse in Peninsula State Park. She volunteered for several years at Bargains Unlimited Resale Shop at Scandia Village. Ruby also quilted many dozens of blankets for homeless cats at the Door County Humane Society.

She will be missed by her cat, Charlie, daughter, Gale (Dan Knispel) Lemburg of Portage, IN, and son, Keith Lemburg of the Town of Liberty Grove; sister, Nancy M. Damberg of Boring, OR; many relatives and friends.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wayne; son, Gary Lemburg; sister, Ellen (Raymond) Dies; brothers-in-law, Raymond Dies and Robert Damberg; other relatives; friends; and several beloved cats and dogs.

She will be laid to rest with a private committal in Baileys Harbor Town Cemetery.

Memorials may be given in Ruby’s name for the Wisconsin Humane Society-Door County Campus or your local humane society.
