Obituary: Russell Earl Golwitzer

Nov. 29, 1954 – June 7, 2024

Russell Earl Golwitzer, age 69 of Sturgeon Bay, died on Friday, June 7, 2024 at Cherry Cove Assisted Living.

He was born on Nov. 29, 1954, to the late Earl and Elizabeth (Chronenvhet) Golwitzer in Flint, Michigan. He is a 1972 graduate of Flint Central High School. In 1991, he moved to the Sturgeon Bay area.

In 1993, Russell married Pollyanna Marie Breitlow and the couple were blessed with a son they named Hans in 2002 and a daughter named Elizabeth in 2005. Deciding to go their separate ways after 18 years of marriage, they remained active in their children’s lives. Russell worked for Emerson Electric for 11 years, N.E.W. Plastics for 10 years, and briefly for Walmart, O’Reilly Auto Parts, and the Hyatt Regency before retirement.

Russell enjoyed spending time in nature; fishing, bird watching, and the occasional campfires. In his younger years, he enjoyed spending time at the cabin he built in Lewiston, Michigan. Another favorite past time was watching movies at home or in the movie theater. His personal collection of movies at one time was over 700. He had a love for rock music and going to concerts. His favorite bands to see were Blue Oyster Cult, Deep Purple, Bachman-Turner Overdrive, The Alan Parsons Project, and REO Speedwagon. Most of all he loved his children and spending time with them.

Russell is survived by his children, Hans  and Elizabeth (Troy Bowman) Golwitzer, former wife Polly Golwitzer, niece Kelli Cotie, nephew Allen Golwitzer (Tracy); and several great nieces and nephews. He is further survived by friends and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, brother Frank, and sister Dianna.

A devotion will be held on Friday, June 14, 2024 at 7 pm at Huehns Funeral Home, 1414 Michigan Street. Visitation will be held from 5 pm until the time of service with Rev. Dr. Christopher Jackson.
