Obituary: Ruth Ann Buergermeister

Ruth Ann Buergermeister died September 16, 2016 at Golden Living Center-Dorchester in Sturgeon Bay, just over a month before her 98th birthday.

She was born October 24, 1918 in Milwaukee, the daughter of Joseph and Anna Marie (Dorsch) Greis. Following her graduation from Washington High School in Milwaukee in 1937, she went on to study at Milwaukee Area Technical College and earned her degree in secretarial studies. Ruth’s first employment was with A&P Food Stores where she worked for five years. She then went to work for Kohl’s Food Stores, a subsidiary of A&P Food Stores. Ruth’s primary employment was with Gimble Bros. (Gimbles) Department Store for over 25 years where she was an accounting secretary and later worked in women’s clothing and lingerie.

She was united in marriage to Alvin “Al” William Buergermeister in 1943 at St. John De Nepomue church in Milwaukee. They were of members of Christ King Catholic Church in Wauwatosa. Ruth and Al came to Door County and purchased their Clark Lake property in 1969. They were blessed with over 66 years of marriage. Al passed away September 3, 2009.

Ruth enjoyed gardening, baking, and interior design. A true fitness fanatic, she was passionate about living a healthy life and encouraging others to do the same.

Ruth’s final years in Sturgeon Bay were spent at Cardinal Ridge CBRF (from April 2014 until February 2015) and Golden Living Center-Dorchester (since February 2015). “Our family is so grateful for the wonderful, loving care given to Ruthie by Kris Dart and staff at Cardinal Ridge, the entire staff at the Dorchester, and the AseraCare Hospice staff. Thank you all!”

Ruthie’s memory will live on in the hearts of her son, Jim (Maureen) Buergermeister of Clark Lake and Port St. Lucie, FL; sister, Marian Uecke of West Allis; many nieces and nephews; and cousins.

She was welcomed Home by her parents; son, John Buergermeister; sisters, Evelyn Hansen, Gertrude Weithaus, Florence Kolander, and Carol Sheehan; and brother, Fred Greis.

A private family celebration of Ruthie’s life will take place this fall in Milwaukee.
