Obituary: Scott Cornell

Scott Cornell, age 53, died Saturday, August 13 at his home on Washington Island. He was diagnosed with Huntington’s Disease at age 42. Scott was born on the Island to Gilmore and Angie Cornell on January 31, 1963.

His first 16 years were spent growing up in Kenosha, Wis. His family moved back to the Island and he graduated from Washington Island Schools. He studied diesel mechanics at NWTC in Sturgeon Bay but made his living as a carpenter on the Island; starting his own business Cornell Construction and Lawn Service over 25 years ago. Scott married Barbie on August 9, 1986 and they have a daughter, Stefanie. Fall was his favorite time of the year, as it was the start of hunting season. He also enjoyed fishing, cars, watching Islander baseball games, Packer games and spending time with family and friends. He was a past member of the Sportsman’s Club, Lion’s Club and Washington Island Fire Department.

Scott is survived by his wife, Barbie; daughter, Stefanie; Mother, Angie; Sister, Char; Brother, Mike(Sue); Sister-in-Law, Carolyn(Dave); Niece, Jodi(Derrick); Nephews, Aaron, Matt, Christopher and Michael. He will be missed by his Grand Niece and Nephews, Aunts, Uncles and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father and Uncle Rodney. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Unity Hospice for their compassionate care.

There will be a gathering for family and close friends to celebrate Scott’s life on Sunday, September 4 at 1 PM at Sievers School.
