Obituary: Sheila Ruth Ranly

Sheila Ruth Ranly, 61, of Sturgeon Bay, died Monday, Dec. 5, 2016 at Aurora BayCare Medical Center in Green Bay. She was surrounded by her loving husband, “Doc,” of nearly 40 years, her son, Christopher, two granddaughters, Krista and Kayla, along with her close friends, Erin and Marty Hilsabeck.
Sheila was born March 23, 1955 in 1Grand Rapids, MI. She was adopted and raised by her parents, Glenn and Ruth Kinney, in Lincolnwood, IL. Sheila attended Greenville College in Illinois and later Loyola University.
With a desire for other plans and to see the world, she left Loyola and stopped in at a local Navy recruiting office, where she met Michael “Doc” William Ranly. Sheila enlisted with the United States Naval Reserve in December of 1976. She and Doc were married that following summer on July 9, 1977 at Hillside Free Methodist Church in Evanston, IL. Sheila was a Retired First Class Hospital Corpsman, serving for 24 years. She was a volunteer firefighter for almost 20 years and was the first female firefighter from Ephraim. She also served as an EMT first responder for Northern Door. Sheila worked as an emergency room tech for Door County Memorial Hospital for 10 years.
She was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Sheila loved fishing, especially off Anderson Dock in Ephraim and by the bridge in Sturgeon Bay. Her passion for crafting was evident by her creations on display at the Ranly Maritime Gallery in Sturgeon Bay. She loved her Wednesday nights out with Doc-playing bingo at the Jaycee Clubhouse.
Sheila was never one to judge others. She was always there for those who needed help; her home was always open.
Sheila will be deeply missed by her husband, Michael “Doc” Ranly; daughter, Elizabeth; son, Christopher; granddaughters, Audrey, Krista and Kayla; father, Glenn Kinney; and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth M. Kinney; and her parents-in-law, Maurice Paul Ranly, Sr. and Beverly Jean (Clark) Ranly.
Visitation for family and friends will be held at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay on Saturday, December 10, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 noon with Pastor David Leistra officiating. Sheila will be laid to rest in Bayside Cemetery with full military honors.
