Obituary: Steven Olaf Olsen

Steven Olaf Olsen, 64, of Sturgeon Bay, WI, and Ocala, FL, died in the comfort of his home in Sturgeon Bay on Saturday, October 10, 2020.

He was born May 9, 1956 in Sturgeon Bay, the son of Olaf Leonard Olsen and Helen M. (Flock) Olsen. Steve attended Gibraltar High School and was a member of the champion ski team and placed 2nd individually. He always talked about visiting Upper Michigan for the skiing there. Upon his graduation from Gibraltar in 1974, Steve went on to study at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and then the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.

He was self-employed as a craftsman and worked on various remodeling, painting, and carpentry projects. Steve even built his own home that he currently resided in, in Sturgeon Bay.

He met Colleen Susan Schlee, and together, they shared over 24 years together, spending time in Sturgeon Bay and Ocala, FL.

Steve was an artist who loved creating jewelry and sculptures. His passion for downhill skiing persisted throughout his life as he looked forward to skiing trips in Utah and Colorado. Steve was also an avid golfer. He played pool and foosball in leagues in Valmy. Steve loved his pets: dog, Bodie and cat, Katie.

He will be missed by his companion in life, Colleen of Ocala, FL and Sturgeon Bay; four sisters, Yvonne (Bill) Boettcher of Sturgeon Bay, Nancy (Dick) Schultz of Wales, Marcia Usow of Boulder, CO, and Vicki Riley of Greenville; nieces and nephews; and other relatives.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Elizabeth Hjymdahl; and other relatives.

His life will be honored privately by his family in the summer of 2021.
