Obituary: Susan Savidge Kinney

March 11, 1946 – October 29, 2022

Susan Kinney, 76, of Egg Harbor, died peacefully at the Door County Medical Center Skilled Nursing Facility in Sturgeon Bay. She was born in Fargo, ND to Richard Gearhart Savidge and Cloyce Hocking Savidge. She is survived by her two brothers, Richard G. Savidge and David B. Savidge.

Her growing up years were spent in Indianapolis, Mequon, WI, Barrington, IL, and Carmel, IN. She attended Cornell University (BS Child Development and Family Relationships) and Indiana University / Bloomington (MS College Student Personnel Administration). While at Cornell, she met and later married Jim, her husband of 54 years. She and Jim lived in Western Springs, IL, for 26 years, then in Chicago for five years. They moved to Door County in 2002.

Susan’s life was about raising her children, Jeffrey J. Kinney and Karen E. (Kinney) Kang. She also cared deeply about other children, especially younger children, and worked and helped in schools in both suburban and inner-city Chicago. In later years she mentored other women and shared her Christian faith at Bible study groups and in one- on-one and small group interactions. Gardening was a continuing thread throughout her life, and she created beautiful gardens wherever she lived.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Breakthrough Urban Ministries of Chicago.

There will be a memorial service on Friday Nov. 11th at 11 AM at the Kress Pavilion in Egg Harbor. A lunch buffet will be provided after the service. All are welcome. Dress is Door County casual.
