Obituary: Suzanne Marie (Petersen) Strong

December 5, 1942 ~ March 6, 2022

Suzanne Marie Strong, 79, of Sturgeon Bay, died on Sunday, March 6, 2022 with her loving husband by her side.

She was born December 5, 1942 in Sturgeon Bay, daughter of the late Arnold Charles and Alice Marian (Birmingham) Petersen. After her mom’s passing, Sue was adopted by Gail Catherine (Dachelet) Petersen. She graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School prior to attending the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh. Sue worked as an Office and Transportation Manager for A&A Manufacturing in New Berlin for 20 years. She then worked as a flight attendant for Midwest Airlines for 11 years until her retirement in 2002. Sue was united in marriage with John Kenneth Strong in 2001 at Divine Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hartland. The couple lived a life full of adventure. They enjoyed off-roading with their Jeep, hiking, fishing, and boating. They visited nearly every National Park from Wisconsin to the West Coast. They were sight stewards in Arizona and members of Havasu 4 Wheelers and Havasu Hikers. For several years, they wintered in Arizona and spent their summers on the boat, traveling between Milwaukee and Door County. They moved to Door County full time in 2018.

Sue will be missed by her husband, John; children, Kirk (Marcia) Hanratty, Kim (Dennis) Doyle, Christle Jensen, and Brandon (Leah) Strong; grandchildren, Kyle (Katie) and Max Hanratty, Taylor (Taylor) Loeffler and Matthew Doyle, Maquel (fiancée, Shane Maloney) and Mariah Jensen, and Claire, Charlie, and Jack Strong; mom, Gail Petersen; brother-in-law, Greg Strong; sisters-in-law, Vicki (Jerome) Bobb and Darlene Strong; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arnold and Alice Petersen; sister, Kaye Petersen; and brothers-in-law, Duane and Keith Strong.

A private Celebration of Life will be held in Sue’s honor.
