January 27, 1946 ~ June 29, 2022
Thomas George Krueck, 76, of Sturgeon Bay, WI, died Wednesday morning, June 29, 2022, at Sturgeon Bay Health Services.
He was born January 27, 1946, in Los Angeles, CA, the only child of George Hubert Krueck and Virgilee Fay Krueck. Tom’s family moved to Wisconsin, and he attended the University School of Milwaukee in River Hills, WI. Upon his graduation from University School in 1964, he continued his undergraduate and doctoral studies in Education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Tom was initially employed as an administrator for the Dallas Independent School District for over five years, before going to work for the Texas Education Agency (TEA). He served as Assistant Superintendent for Alice Independent School District in Alice, Texas.
Tom moved to Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin in 2002, a place he came to know through relatives who lived there and also from vacationing with family there over the years. He settled in Sturgeon Bay and helped provide business improvement consulting. Tom was an active and respected community member. He served on the board for the Aging and Disabilities Resource Center (ADRC) of Door County for over 10 years and helped implement policies there. Tom also volunteered with Altrusa of Door County and helped with their Back-to-School Fair. He was a very spiritual man who came to know Christ later in his life and became a devout Christian. Tom attended the Baptist Church in Brussels, WI for a short time and also the bible study at Bay View Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay. As he would reflect back on his life and the struggles and hardships he and his family experienced, his faith brought him comfort.
When Tom’s health began to decline, he relied on the help of his caregivers, Polly Gollwitzer, and eventually Will Gregory and (Will’s) wife, Anita. His residency at Sturgeon Bay Health Services initially began in November of 2016 and was able to live at home intermittently until his most recent admission this year.
In life, Tom was an outdoorsman who liked to go camping, hiking, running, biking, and playing tennis. Summers were the time of year for traveling with his family. They enjoyed visiting national parks throughout the United States, including Wyoming, Montana, Utah, and North and South Dakota. Tom loved training and showing dogs (Siberian Huskies and Salukis). He was a lifelong learner and was an avid reader throughout his life. Tom was an enthusiastic sports fan. Having lived in Texas, he was a fan of the San Antonio Spurs, and upon moving to Wisconsin, became a huge fan of the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers, and the Wisconsin Badgers. Tom made sure he had all of the sports channels in his cable programming, and he loved watching March Madness. He could talk to anyone about sports. Tom enjoyed riding his scooter around town in Sturgeon Bay – to the local Farmer’s Market, to Econo Foods, and up and down Bay Shore Drive, until his health prevented from doing so.
Tom is survived by his three children, Stephen Krueck of Seymour, WI, David Krueck of Boise, ID, and Michelle Krueck of Dallas, TX; eight grandchildren, Marlys Britton, Myna Krueck, Tyler Krueck, Joseph Schulz, James Schulz, Margaret (Sam) Weiss, Gregory Schulz, and Katherine (Nicholas ) Fortune; special friend, Mae Vandermeuse of Sturgeon Bay; caregivers, Polly Golwitzer of Forestville, WI and Will (Anita) Gregory of Sturgeon Bay; and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
No services are scheduled to be held.
