Aug. 27, 1916 – May 20, 2019
Viola Olson, 102, died peacefully in her home in Baileys
Harbor. She was born in Kiel, Wisconsin, the oldest daughter in a family of 11 children that included four sons and seven daughters. She spent her childhood and high school years in Brillion, Wisconsin, which included many summer vacations in Door County.
After high school, she went to school at Badger Business College in Green Bay and was employed at A.C. Straubel, a Kraft Foods company. During her employment, she met her future husband, Conrad Olson, who was a junior auditor for Kraft Foods while a student at Northwestern University. They had a few dates before he was drafted to serve in the Army during WWII.
Once Conrad returned from his three-year tour of duty in the Army Jungleers, serving in New Guinea, he and Viola were married on May 5, 1944. They had two children: Beverly and Richard. During their marriage and employments, they lived several cities, including Tyler, Texas; Minneapolis; Chicago Heights, Illinois; Darien, Connecticut; Lake Forest, Illinois; Jacksonville, Florida; and, following Conrad’s death in 1999, Baileys Harbor.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Minnie (Arnhoelter) Enneper; daughter Beverly (Robert) Kopp; sisters Alma Hansen, Ruby Pohland, Ruth Zahn, Ermie Werner, and Helen Keller; brothers Walter, Harold, Edward and Eric.
She is survived by her sister Lois (John) Davis of Dallas, Texas; son Richard (Judy) Olson of Baileys Harbor; grandchildren Andy (Amy) Olson, Christine (Joe) Morneau, Larry (Bethany) Olson, and Kevin (Kayla) Olson; great-grandchildren Emma, Henry, Sylvia, Lyla, Lucy, Charlie and James; and numerous nieces and nephews.
