Obituary: Wanda (Peterson) Mango

April 2, 1943 ~ May 12, 2022

Wanda Rochelle Mango, 79, of Sturgeon Bay died at Sturgeon Bay Health Services on May 12, 2022.  She was born April 2, 1943 in Sturgeon Bay to Leonard and Alice (Logerquist) Peterson.

Wanda attended and graduated from Gibraltar High School in 1961.  After high school, she attended Bethel College in Minneapolis, MN.  She did her nurses training at the Swedish Covenant Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago.

On June 25, 1966, she married Joe Mango in Sister Bay. After living in Chicago for several years, they settled in Door County in 1972.  Wanda worked as a Register Nurse for almost 30 years at Door County Memorial Hospital.  She mostly worked in the labor and delivery department.  For a number of years, she and her husband also owned and operated a floral and framing shop in Sturgeon Bay called the Mitered Touch.

Wanda was a long time and active member of the First Baptist Church of Sturgeon Bay where she played the piano at worship services and taught a variety of bible classes in the women’s ministries.  Wanda enjoyed writing and published a book entitled “Grandma’s Home Kitchen” which was a collection of family stories and recipes.  She also enjoyed sewing, crafting, and baking.  She especially loved entertaining relatives and friends, hosting many gatherings and parties.

Survivors include her husband Joe; two sons, Mike Mango, Port St. Lucie, FL; and Andy, Sturgeon Bay; five brothers, Richard (Judi) Peterson, Tim (Sharon) Peterson, Les (Gail) Peterson, Steven (Pam ) Peterson, Stuart (Joanne) Peterson; four sisters, Jule (Bob) Oradnic, Crystal (Jim) Hogan, Colleen(Jeffrey) Budzis, Mirian Dorn; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Patty Peterson.

Funeral Services will be 1:00 pm Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at the First Baptist Church of Sturgeon Bay.  Burial will be in Little Sister Cemetery, Sister Bay.  Friends may call at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the church until the time of services.  Forbes Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
