Obituary: William (Bill) L. Massey

We have lost one of the great characters that came to us in the last century. William (Bill) L Massey, Jr. left us for his next great adventure on the evening of November 9, 2017. He was 90. Born in St. Louis on Feb. 28, 1927, he was the oldest of Idie and William Sr ( Aka “Bullie). His love affair with Door County began in 1960 upon his parents’ purchase of Silver Poplars in Ellison Bay. He later retired to Ellison Bay in 1986 with his bride of 50 years; Peggy (aka his Peggy). There they enjoyed retirement with lavender parties, garden parties, bonfire parties and of course Derby Day parties. They partied hardy until “ his Peggy” left us in 2001. He now goes to the party of his life.
He leaves behind 4 children (Margaret Compton of Prospect, Ohio, William, III of Chicago, Ill, Mary Jellerson of Huntington Beach, CA and Robert (Bob) of Milwaukee, WI). 6 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Cheers Dad.
Funeral Mass will be held at Stella Maris Parish – Sister Bay Site on Saturday November 18, 2017 at 11:00 A.M.. Visitation will be from 10:30 A.M. until time of Mass. Burial will take place in St Rosalia Cemetery.
