• The Family Centers of Door County, Inc. recently announced Laura Findlay Hagen as a new addition to their team of coordinators. Findlay Hagen has been hired to manage Family Centers’ programs for the Washington Island community. The Washington Island Family Center is housed at the Recreation Center. Hagen will be responsible for conducting existing programs for families and special event teen nights. She will also implement two new programs: STAR Parent Networking Group and a monthly Adult Luncheon beginning this month.

The Family Centers of Door County provide fun, family entertainment and education for people of all ages. Program activities and events are held at various locations from Southern Door to Washington Island. This includes social functions, parenting education, support groups, workshops, and inter-generational activities that strengthen & support families and communities. • Dr. Eric Paulsen of Door County was presented with the 2009 Optometrist of the Year Award on Sept. 26 at the Wisconsin Optometric Association (WOA) Convention and Annual Meeting in the Wisconsin Dells. This award is given in recognition of excellence, dedication to the profession of optometry, and service to the community.

Dr. Paulsen has owned his practice, Door County Eye Associates, Inc., since 1984. He has provided 27 years of independent primary eye care services to the Door County Community.

Dr. Paulsen graduated from Carroll College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in chemistry, and went on to receive his Doctorate Degree in Optometry from the Illinois College of Optometry in 1982. He is a longstanding, active member of the Wisconsin Optometric Association (WOA), American Optometric Association (AOA) and Northeastern Wisconsin Optometric Society. He and wife, Dee, live in Sturgeon Bay, with children Nels and Annika.

• Sturgeon Bay Utilities General Manager Jim Stawicki has been re-elected to serve on the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors for the utility’s nonprofit power supplier, WPPI Energy.

Following an election by the WPPI Energy Board of Directors at the company’s annual meeting, Stawicki was named to the 11-member committee that oversees WPPI Energy’s operations and programs. A member of the executive committee since 2006, he will serve a three-year term. Stawicki was also re-elected to serve a one-year term as secretary for WPPI Energy.

In addition to serving as Sturgeon Bay’s representative on the board of directors and executive committee, Stawicki serves as the chair of both the Energy Services Advisory Group and the WPPI Benefit Plan Trust for WPPI Energy.
