One Killed, One Injured in Ellison Bay Boat Crash

Vernon J. Rubenic, 54, of Oswego, Ill., died on Sept. 9 when his 23-foot Powerquest boat, the Cherry Bounce, crashed into rocks offshore of Door Bluff Road in Ellison Bay. The Door County Sheriff’s Department was called to the scene at about 11:50 pm for a report of a boat crash. The seriously injured passenger has been identified as Frank Gibson, 40, of Washington Island. The Wisconsin DNR continues the investigation into the cause of the crash.
