Open Door Bird Sanctuary Hosts Winter Open Days

Open Door Bird Sanctuary ( will host its third annual winter Open Days on Feb. 13 and March 13, 11 am – 3 pm. Stop by to hike, snowshoe or cross-country ski (supply your own equipment) on the trails; enjoy the bonfire and warm beverages; and meet some resident raptors, too! Admission for the general public is $3.

The sanctuary is also introducing its newest resident: a seven-year-old golden eagle named Mesa. Although he has no visual appearance of a disability, he is not flighted. Signs of arthritis in his left shoulder are visible on X-rays taken by a veterinarian in Mesa’s home state of Utah, but he’s in good health otherwise and should have a good, long life ahead at the sanctuary.
