Open Door Pride Announces New Vice Chair

The Open Door Pride board of directors has elected Michael Meulemans to a three-year term as its new vice chair.

Meulemans has lived in Door County for more than two decades, and he’s served on the Destination Sturgeon Bay board, as president of the Baileys Harbor Community Association board and on the Parks Committee for the Town of Baileys Harbor. During that time, he co-developed the Tall Ship Festival in Sturgeon Bay and started the Baileys Harbor Farmers Market, among other contributions. He also owns and runs Design Door County and manages the bar at Harbor Fish Market & Grille.

Meulemans and his husband, Doug Smith, were the first gay couple to be married in Door County. Together they produce an annual, free-to-the-community drag show called Mirrorball.

Open Door Pride’s signature event, Pride Festival, is seeking vendors, and interested parties should email [email protected]. The organization is also seeking nominees for its Sandy Brown Award – given annually to a person, organization or business that exemplifies its mission to celebrate our diversity with inclusion for all – as well as an artist to design this year’s award. Suggest nominees or reach out regarding the award by emailing [email protected].
