Open Enrollment for Dairy Margin Coverage

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) opened enrollment for the Dairy Margin Coverage (DMC) program on June 17 and has started issuing payments to producers who purchased coverage. Producers can enroll through Sept. 20, 2019. “With lower premiums and higher levels of assistance than previous programs, DMC is already proving to be a good option for a lot of dairy producers across the country,” said Bill Northey, USDA undersecretary for farm production and conservation. “USDA is committed to efficiently implementing the safety-net programs in the 2018 Farm Bill and helping producers deal with the challenges of the ever-changing farm economy.”

The USDA is extending the deadline for Wisconsin agricultural producers who have been affected by flooding and heavy moisture to file crop-acreage reports. The new July 22, 2019, deadline applies to reporting crops to USDA’s FSA county offices and federal crop-insurance agents. Producers filing reports with FSA county offices are encouraged to set up an appointment before visiting the office. Acreage reports from those who set up appointments before the July 22 deadline are considered to be filed in a timely fashion, even if the appointment occurs after the deadline.
