Operation Backpack Still Accepting Contributions

Captain Patrick Flood, a Door County native now serving with Special Forces in Afghanistan, is still seeking donations from the Door County community in hopes of providing backpacks for 5,000 Afghan children on their first day of school Jan. 1. Originally, the deadline to contribute was Nov. 15, but it has been extended one month to Dec. 15. Capt. Flood’s Special Forces unit is working to enhance security and provide supplies for a school of 2,000 girls and 3,000 boys.

Each pack should include the following: toothbrush, toothpaste, bar of soap, comb or brush, underwear, tennis shoes, socks, pants shirt, durable winter jacket, gloves, pencils, pens, notebook, folders.
