Options Hair Studio in Sturgeon Bay is donating a portion of the proceeds from every child’s haircut through the end of the year to the Sturgeon Bay Skatepark Initiative (SBSI) to help build a public skatepark on the west side of Sturgeon Bay. According to owners John and Linda Kurz, “Options loves to support the dreams and ambitions that keep our community healthy and growing. We have a lot of kids that come in here. We know how much this skatepark means to them and how hard they’ve been working to raise funds.”
SBSI recently announced that it had received a $50,000 matching challenge grant from an anonymous local donor. Proceeds raised from the haircuts will help SBSI meet the $50,000 grant and the overall fundraising goal.
The total project cost for design and construction of the 10,000-square-foot, poured concrete park is $405,000. SBSI has secured a little more than $300,000 in gifts and pledges to date. The group hopes to complete fundraising by the end of this year.
“This is a great time to make a contribution,” states Laurel Hauser, co-chair of the Skatepark Initiative. “We are more than 75 percent of the way to meeting our goal and contributions of any size help and are greatly appreciated. We’re really pleased with the outpouring of community support and the creative ways in which local businesses have come forth to help.”
Options Hair Studio is located at 213 Louisiana St. and is open Tuesday through Saturday. Call 920.746.1205 for an appointment.
SBSI is a fund of the Door County Community Foundation. Tax-deductible contributions may be sent to DCCF, P.O. Box 802, Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235 or made online at sbskate.org. For more information find SBSI on Facebook.
