About Peninsula Music Festival
American conductor Thor Johnson (June 10, 1913 – January 16, 1975) along with Lorenz and Ella Mae Heise and Kay Wilson founded the Peninsula Music Festival in 1953. It was the vision of the founders to perform chamber music for small orchestra. Their dream became a reality when the PMF orchestra first performed on August 6, 1953 in the old Gibraltar School gymnasium. Today the orchestra has grown to a full, world-class symphony orchestra with 65 members plus world-renowned guest artists and conductors, performing in the 750 seat Door Community Auditorium in Fish Creek. For more than 65 years the PMF has performed nine complete and different symphonic concerts in the first three weeks of August.
