“Oxygen”
Music and Lyrics by Marybeth Mattson, © 2009

You strike a matchstick
on your jacket
light a cigarette – burn me down.
And we smolder in the ashes
of the lives we’ve lived before,
we burn with relative hunger
in the dying of that world.

We break the rules
moment to moment.
Regretting nothing, not holding back.
The dark night that surrounds us is
safer than the light, so we
wrap ourselves in the black.

Marybeth Mattson performs an original.

And you, breathe me in
like Oxygen – skin on skin.

We whisper
foreheads together.
Our limbs, like branches, tangled
in this storm.
Our words the only thing, come between us,
hands on heartbeats keep us warm.

A storm rages outside
a window, somewhere.
We hear the howling, we are the moon.
We shine in starlight from
each others eyes, we shine
in embers stirred too soon.

And you, breathe me in
like Oxygen – skin on skin.

You strike a matchstick
on your jacket
light a cigarette,
burn me down.

“The Last Thing I Ever Saw”
Lyrics by Rick Younglove

Oh say to me that you’ll calm me when I tremble
and I promise you that I’ll be there if you fall
It’s not like before, this time it’s for certain
that you are the one I’ll be holding onto

(Chorus)
I come home to you and you take away all my worries
You make me forget all that I’ve wanted for

I try to be a man you can believe in
even on the days I don’t believe in myself
but you make me strong even when I’m weary
and those are the days that you’re holding on to me

I come home to you and you take away all my worries
You make me forget all that I’ve wanted for

Will you still love me when my mind becomes unraveled?
or will an empty old man be the only thing that you see?
Will you still believe in me the way that I believe in you?
Will I still be the one that you’re holding onto?

I’ll hold onto you when my bones are old and aching
There’s nothing but the truth that lives inside of you

And when I’m dying will you stand there at my bedside
So that you’ll be the last thing I ever saw
