Master taxidermist Mike Orthober will make his final appearance of the season at the Door County Historical Museum (DCHM) on Aug. 24, 10 am – 4 pm, when he will be mounting another bird for inclusion in the museum’s Seasons of Life diorama – which he designed and built – and answering questions about the art and craft of taxidermy.
Orthober is a sharp-eyed student of natural history and is well known in the taxidermy field. He’s earned many national and international awards – including Best in World for warm-water fish and for a nongame bird – and he was recently inducted into the Taxidermy Hall of Fame.
The museum, at 4th and Michigan in Sturgeon Bay, is open daily, 10 am – 4 pm.
