A little rain couldn’t dampen the convivial atmosphere at this year’s Door County Beer Fest, held June 20 in Baileys Harbor.

The Sturgeon Bay Visitor Center (SBVC) will host its annual Independence Day celebration at Sunset Park on July 4. The evening will begin with live music on the Brick Lot Pub & Grill Stage at 5 pm by Lakeside Fire, the Kevin Fayte Rock-n-Roll Trio, and WIFEE and the HUZzBAND.

The Liberty Grove Historical Society’s (LGHS) traditional Fish Boil officially opened Olde Ellison Bay Days festivities in downtown Ellison Bay on June 25.

On July 2 at 7 pm, Mike Orthober will present “Wildlife Wizardry” at the Baileys Harbor Town Hall. As part of The Ridges’ Lake Lessons series, Orthober will discuss and display the art of bringing wildlife to life through taxidermy.

On June 28 at 2 pm Master Gardener Lee Somerville will give a presentation on the use of herbs in the Heritage Garden at Heritage Village of Big Creek.

Door County Kayak Tours and Gravity Trails opened two new locations this year. The company now offers new destinations for kayaking and has introduced paddle boarding and zip lining.

July 4 marks the sixth annual cookout on Rock Island from 11 am – 2 pm, hosted by the Friends of Rock Island (FORI). There will be burgers, brats with buns and condiments, plus beverages, chips, and desserts.

On July 3 head to Egg Harbor to start the Independence Day weekend. Modern Day Drifters will kick off the weekend in Harbor View Park from 5 – 9 pm. Great food will be available for purchase from local restaurants in the park starting at 4 pm.

This year’s Door County Fair will take place July 29 – Aug. 2 at John Miles County Park, 812 N. 14th Ave., Sturgeon Bay. Musical acts on the Coors Light Midway Stage will include: Vic Ferrari, Johnny Wad Band, Boogie and the Yo-Yo’z, Hurry Up Wait, Separate Ways, and Let Me Be Frank Productions presents Frank’s All Star Tribute Show.

Showing off Sturgeon Bay’s infamous, historical bridge, Door County Adventure Center (DCAC) announces that they will be offering a tour this summer taking kayakers through Sturgeon Bay.

Heritage Garden was one of the first projects at Crossroads at Big Creek. Established in 1998 by the Sturgeon Bay Home and Garden Club as a memorial to honor two of their members, June Mackey and Gertrude Olson, the original planting was only a little herb garden, but gardens have a way of growing.

It just doesn’t seem fair. All winter we risked life and limb, trudging through icy drifts to fill our bird feeders and now that the weather is nicer and the birds are more colorful, they seem to be visiting feeders less and less often.

The name has changed to Crossroads Trail Run, but Door County’s first and only trail run, scheduled for 8 am on June 20, has stayed true to the Running Green purpose of “promoting wellness and healthy living, cross-generational recreation and increasing awareness of ‘green’ living in our community.
