Just in time to help combat cabin fever, the Door County Land Trust has unveiled its newly created Android phone app, Let’s Hike! The new app features directions to and trail maps for thirteen of the Land Trust’s nature preserves from Little Lake on Washington Island in the north to the Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal and Legacy at Clay Banks preserves along Lake Michigan in the south.

The 20th annual Door County Lighthouse Festival, scheduled for June 7 – 9, promises a weekend filled with special land-based tours and exciting boat excursions.

Hop on over to the Peninsula State Park Nature Center on March 30, 1 – 2 pm, for a Timberdoodle Egg Hunt. Discover the bizarre habits of the timberdoodle (a real bird) and walk the trail looking for timberdoodle “eggs” to keep.

Frogs wake up from their winter hibernation in a feisty mood. Early spring is mating season and the wetlands fill with peeping, trilling and quacking as the males seek out their little green sweethearts.

The Door County Master Gardeners Association will present the final public education program for the winter on April 16 at 7 pm. As spring begins, Door County gardeners scour seed catalogs, dream about this year’s garden, and make plans to correct the nagging problems their home gardens faced in the past.

Crossroads at Big Creek will hold an EGGstravaganza, their annual celebration of eggs, the day before Easter. This event is not a hunt; instead, learners of all ages explore the wonders of bird eggs – the various strengths, shapes and variations.

Beer lovers rejoice – tickets for the 2013 Door County Beer Festival are now available at www.doorcountybeer.com! After drawing 1,100 people to the grounds of the Baileys Harbor Town Hall in 2012, the event returns June 15, 2013, offering tastings of more than 140 of the world’s best craft beers, locally sourced food and incredible live music.

Sister Bay will host their third annual Egg Hunt on March 30. Eggs will be hidden all around Waterfront Park in downtown Sister Bay (inside the Sister Bay Village Hall if it’s raining), and in different sections according to age group.

Visit Peninsula State Park’s Nature Center on March 16 at 11 am to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and hear the Legend of the Wild Swans. Visitors will listen to this Celtic folk tale, and then learn about Wisconsin swans.

A Door County tradition continues with Ellison Bay’s 47th Annual Olde Ellison Bay Days Festival, scheduled for June 28 & 29. This year’s theme is “Feed the Fish,” selected in recognition of the film of that title starring Tony Shalhoub, star of the television series Monk.

The Door County Fair has announced the dates for the 2013 fair, July 31 – Aug. 4 at John Miles County Park in Sturgeon Bay. Musical acts for this year’s fair include Vic Ferrari, Glass Hammer, Boogie & the Yo-yo’z, Back Home Boys, and Michael Raye and The Works.

Crossroads at Big Creek in Sturgeon Bay will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with two nature hikes appropriately titled, “In Search of Green.” On March 16 at 1:30 and 3:30 pm, join the naturalist for a one-hour hike through the preserve.

The Ephraim Yacht Club (EYC) has announced its junior group sailing lesson program for 2013. The EYC will offer lessons over a ten-week period beginning June 10, in two one-week sessions and four two-week sessions.

Swallows may be flying back to Capistrano, but when bluebirds appear in Door County in March, it’s a sure sign that spring is on the way. In some areas, though, the returning bluebirds have a hard time finding a home.

The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Door County is hosting classes about organic gardening on three Thursdays in March from 1 – 3:30 pm. Ben Johansen will teach the classes.

For as long as snow conditions are adequate, the Friends of Crossroads will continue the Sunday Community Ski Program held every Sunday afternoon at Crossroads at Big Creek.

Don your Mardi Gras beads and break out of your cabin fever with a party on the ice! To celebrate the conclusion of the third annual Ice Fishing Tournament, Husby’s Food & Spirits will host a Mardi Gras themed party on March 3 on the ice surrounding Sister Bay.
