    It does not take much convincing to believe that the steel bridge on Michigan Street in Sturgeon Bay has much historic value. The characteristic worn steel and many visitors snapping photos lends to the idea that there is significance within the nuts and bolts of the site.

  • Registration for Final Ridges Camp of the Season

    Parents can still register their children for The Ridges final camp program of the season. Camp Taiga II is designed for children entering grades 3 – 6 and is in session on August 7 – 9, and lasts from 9 am – 12 pm.

    Lakeside Park in Jacksonport is once again the venue for Cherry Fest. The celebration is August 4 from 7 am – 4 pm. Food will be served, including fresh cherries, cherry brats and cherry hamburgers as well as an assortment of cherry desserts.

    The City of Sturgeon Bay Parks and Recreation Department announce two free movies will be shown in the park this summer. All movies will be family friendly and have a rating of G or PG.

    The Ridges Sanctuary is offering programs for inquisitive and adventurous families. On July 23, the program Wet and Wild is from 2 – 3:30 pm. Wet feet are part of the fun in this search for diving beetles, small fish, whirligig beetles and damselfly larvae in a shallow pond.

    On July 21, the Door County Land Trust invites the public to a guided hike of its northernmost nature preserve, the Little Lake Nature Preserve on Washington Island.

    2012 marks the 75th anniversary of The Ridges Sanctuary. For the anniversary, on July 20 at 9 am, Roy Lukes will recreate the very first hike he led at The Ridges in 1964 as part of a special series of History Hikes.
