Overheard, Shout Outs and Obsessions

OVERHEARD

Are there tid-bits of conversations you’ve heard while standing in line at the grocery store, serving a table, or walking down the sidewalk that make you smile, cringe or laugh out loud?

“That’s a yeast infection waiting to happen.”

“Obama is my Jesus.”

“Lard is no longer used in cooking because of the electric light bulb.”

“I was in a bathroom for three months.”

“If you’ve seen a placenta when it comes out its like a giant party hat.”

“I’m sailing by his nipple.”

“I’m a total dune snob.”

“Next thing you know, you’re 35 and he’s 31, and it seems like a good idea.”

“Doctors I don’t do anymore.”

“You get a little too much Merlot in my dad and he doesn’t sit.”

“I’m trying to decide whether to lay low in Ephraim or go wild in Fish Creek.”

SHOUT OUTS

Is there someone or something that deserves a pat on the back or a slap on the wrist?

“Shout out to Billy Collins, who recently read at the Door Community Auditorium, a humorous, accessible poet who has revived my interest in the art.” ~ Re-energized Poet

“Shout out to all my friends with access to boats – sailboats, powerboats, and pontoon boats – and their parents, grandparents, and/or wealthy relatives for letting us use them!” ~ Grateful, boat-less girl

OBSESSIONS

Is there anything you can’t stop thinking about, listening to, watching, eating, or drinking? Obsessions are meant to be your of-the-moment fixation.

“Peace Tea: 100 percent natural tea, no artificial flavors, no preservatives, no artificial colors, 99 cents, and sweet-looking can.” ~ Peace-loving tea drinker

“I am currently obsessed with American Movie, a documentary about an aspiring filmmaker from Milwaukee trying to complete a low-budget horror flick with the help of his devoted mother and quirky friends. This film is all at once hilarious, tragic, endearing, and inspiring.” ~ Sally Slattery
