Overheard and Shout Outs: April 28, 2017

OVERHEARD

Are there tid-bits of conversations you’ve heard while standing in line at the grocery store, serving a table, or walking down the sidewalk that make you smile, cringe or laugh out loud?

“Coming to work with bugs in your hair? Yeah. You’re totally eco chic.”

“There are no secrets in Door County!”

“That’s drunk speak for ‘giraffe.’”

“Everyone smells like sour cream and onion.”

“Back in my day, we had to make our own ankle socks!”

“I was trying to teach it to climb, but I don’t think it’s a mountain goat.”

“Stop, or else I will say stop again.”

“We have the shirts, you have the arms.”

SHOUT OUTS

Is there someone or something that deserves a pat on the back or a slap on the wrist?

To the great state of Alaska, for being the first state to give companion animals visibility in a divorce proceeding; awarding custody on the basis of what is best for the pet, not the human guardians. – Sharon Thill

Shoutout to local Friends groups: Your dedication to protecting and preserving the beautiful spaces of Door County and inspiring volunteerism in others does not go unnoticed!

A pat on the back to individuals who are putting their money where their mouth is by donating to the National Endowment for the Arts, National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, all of which are facing potential cuts in the federal budget. Way to take a stand and make a difference!

Shoutout to Baileys 57 for their expansion and beer cave addition. Their turnaround for the project was very quick and the results are awesome!
