Paintings, Past and Present

Carol Schalla, a Door County pastel artist, is having a gallery showing of a variety of her works at the Door County YMCA in Fish Creek. Throughout May, a collection of Schalla’s pastel paintings, including landscapes, water vistas, still lifes and portraits, can be viewed and purchased.

For the past four years of her retirement, Schalla has been interpreting the many natural beauties of the peninsula, in a slightly impressionist/realist style. However, portrait work was where Schalla started her artistic leanings some 35 years ago, and recently, a collection of her older portraits were recovered. These are also included in this show.

More of Schalla’s work can be seen at the Chef’s Hat restaurant in Ephraim and in upcoming shows at The Hardy Gallery.
