Pangaea Gallery Features Jeweler Kathy Stanaszek

Pangaea Gallery is pleased to show and make available the unique and stunning jewelry of Kathy Stanaszek, who describes her art as fused dichroic glass jewels, based on the ancient art of glass that dates back to pre-Roman times.

Today, with the introduction of micro-technology, clear glass has been coated with fine, reflective layers of metal to create dichroic glass for use in computer microchips and other industrial applications. Contemporary artisans recently discovered that combining ancient fusing techniques utilizing dichroic glass produces jewel-like effects. Much like fire opals, these jewels refract layers of color that glow and change with the light and color environments.

Kathy Stanaszek creates these one-of-a-kind art pieces by layering the dichroic glass, gluing, grinding, cutting and forming the pieces like precious cabochons. Fired in a kiln to 1,600 degrees, the glass layers fuse in ancient alchemy. Fire and metal flow and meld the base elements into contemporary treasures. The effect that Kathy achieves is truly remarkable.

Pangaea Gallery, 3992 Juddville Road, is open Thursday through Saturday, 10 am to 5 pm, and Sunday, 1 to 5 pm. For more information call 920.868.1719.
