Sawyer Hotel Developer Bob Papke has expressed disappointment that mediation to resolve the westside waterfront property matter is not scheduled. Rep. Joel Kitchens had agreed to serve as moderator but has been unable to get both sides to agree on a meeting date and time.
Papke reminded everyone that the City of Sturgeon Bay asked him to build a hotel almost three years ago. Papke said the hotel development has approved city permits, state permits, financing, builder, designer, management team and all the elements to provide a vibrant westside business.
Papke said he agreed to do this because he is a local, having been born and raised here, with grandparents who owned a hotel in downtown Sturgeon Bay.
“In addition, I liked the idea of having the hotel provide the tax payments to cover the cost of this waterfront improvement for our community. It is time to work together and get this community improvement done. Having dirt piles on the waterfront is an eye sore.”
Papke expressed appreciation to Rep. Kitchens for his leadership and work on behalf of the community in his attempts to get this resolved.
