Peg Egan Performing Arts Center Presents Chicago Jazz All-Stars

The public is invited to join the celebration “A Tribute to Peg Egan” on Sunday, July 27 at 7 pm at the Peg Egan Performing Arts Center located on Church Street in Egg Harbor.

A celebration will include a selection of jazz standards and new compositions by the Chicago Jazz All-Stars highlighting the talents of Howard Levy, Jeremy Kahn, and Larry Kohout.

Grammy award-winning musician and a founding member of Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Howard Levy is universally acknowledged as the world’s most advanced diatonic harmonica player. By developing a fully chromatic style on the standard 10-hole diatonic harmonica, he revolutionized the instrument. Levy also plays the piano, flute, mandolin, saxophone and percussion with great skill and passion. He has collaborated with musicians such as Kenny Loggins, Styx, Paul Simon, and John Prine. Levy is the music director of Chevere, Chicago’s hottest Latin-jazz-fusion band.

Jeremy Kahn is one of Chicago’s busiest pianists, playing jazz venues, orchestra pits and recording studios. He is a graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music, performing across the world with musicians such as Dizzy Gillespie, Aretha Franklin, Joni Mitchell and so many others. Often a guest on Studs Turkel’s radio show, Kahn also was featured soloist at the Chicago Jazz Festival.

Bassist Larry Kohout is one of the most in-demand bass players in Chicago. Equally proficient on acoustic or electric bass, he is also a fine pianist. After school at Boston’s Berklee College of Music and Northern Illinois University, Kohout began a busy career, playing with Mel Torme, Tony Bennett and many others. He brings orchestral experience from his work with the Rockford Symphony as well as the Chicago Civic Orchestra. Rounding out his active schedule, Kohout plays on many television and radio commercials and has recorded more than 30 albums.

The evening’s celebrations will be open to the public with free admission. This concert is sponsored by Kevin Egan and The Village of Egg Harbor.

Remember to bring your lawn chairs, blankets and sunglasses. In case of rain, the performance will be held at the Orchard Golf Course in Egg Harbor.
