Pen Players Theatre Announces 2017 Season Lineup

Peninsula Players Theatre announces their 82nd season, June 13 – Oct. 15, 2017.

“I’m happy to announce the slate of plays for next year’s 82nd season,” said Artistic Director Greg Vinkler. “We closed our 81st season just a few weeks ago, but getting the roster of plays up this early gives us a head start on all aspects of planning.”

The 2017 lineup is: The Actuary, June 13 – July 2; Peter and the Starcatcher, July 5-23; The Bridges of Madison County, July 26 – Aug. 1; Lord Arthur Savile’s Crime, Aug. 16 to Sept. 3; Almost, Maine, Sept. 5 – Oct. 15.

The Actuary is a romantic comedy-drama by Steven Peterson that opens with the shock of a “Baby Shower Bombshell,” then moves backwards in time to show how they all got there. “It’s about family, it’s about love and it’s about a man who discovers that, perhaps, he is not the most boring man in the world,” said Vinkler.

Peter and the Starcatcher is the swashbuckling and magical adult prequel to Peter Pan. This Tony Award-winning magical play with music has delighted audiences since it opened on Broadway. “Featuring a dozen actors portraying more than 100 unforgettable characters, it’s that rare kind of theatrical event that can appeal equally to kids and adults,” said Vinkler.

The Bridges of Madison County is the gorgeous musical version of that best-selling story which won the Tony Awards for Best Original Score and Best Orchestrations. This musical captures the lyrical expanse of America’s heartland along with the yearning entangled in the eternal question, “What if…?”

Lord Arthur Savile’s Crime is a delightfully silly comedy full of muddled murder attempts – an adaptation by Constance Cox of an Oscar Wilde short story.

Love is lost and found among residents of a small northern town in John Cariani’s charming off-beat comedy, Almost, Maine. It takes place in the remote, mythical town of Almost, Maine on a cold, clear, moonless night with the northern lights hovering in the star-filled sky above. Almost’s residents find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and often hilarious ways.
