A scholarship for a free, youth arts workshop is the top prize for those participating in the art contest to be held during Peninsula Art School’s Family Day on Saturday, May 17, from 10 am – 2 pm. Complimentary art supplies to create the works will be on hand for the artists. There is no fee for the contest or Family Day. Judging and awarding of prizes will occur at 1:30 pm.
The contest will be divided into four age groups: ages 3½ – 5 years, 6 – 8 years, 9 – 12 years and 13 – 17 years. A first, second and third place winner will be named in each age group. The first-place scholarships are valued between $90 and $160 each. Second and third place winners will receive art supplies. All winning entries will be displayed at Peninsula Art School throughout the summer.
This is the first time that the art school has sponsored an art contest. According to Cinnamon Rossman, Community Relations Director for Peninsula Art School, the event is designed to not only reward young artists for their efforts, but to inspire them to continue creating artwork throughout the summer
“In the Door County community, where there is a strong emphasis on the arts, we want younger artists to feel they can participate in the local art scene,” she says.
The Peninsula Art School and Guenzel Gallery are located at 3900 County Hwy F, in Fish Creek. Hours are Monday through Saturday, 9 am – 5 pm. http://www.peninsulaartschool.com.
