Peninsula Art School Youth Contest Winners

Almost 50 young artists, ranging in age from one and a half to 16, competed for the top prize of a free summer workshop scholarship at the Peninsula Art School during the school’s Family Day on Saturday, May 17. The contest was split into four age groups. The first-place winner of each of the groups received a scholarship while the second-place and third-place winners were awarded art supplies.

Styles varied from abstract to realism. Subject matter ranged from landscapes to a “furry llama.” Many of the contestants submitted multiple works.

The first-place winners are: three to five year-olds, Chad Krause of Fish Creek, “Rainy Weather” (tempera); six to eight year-olds, Ava Hitzeman of Ellison Bay, “The Dream House” (pencil); nine to 12 year-olds, Theo Hitzeman of Ellison Bay, “Graffiti Collaboration” (mixed media); 13 to 17 year-olds, Hannah Goldman of Waupaca, “Water Flowers” (tempera).

The second-place winners are: three to five year-olds, Carter Krause of Fish Creek, “Furry Llama” (watercolor); six to eight year-olds, Kaylee Weddig of Fish Creek, “Little Mermaid” (colored pencil); nine to 12 year-olds, Casey Michelic of Ellison Bay, “Landscape” (tempera); 13 to 17 year-olds, Matt Ewald of Menasha, “Twin Fro Trees” (tempera).

The third-place winners are: three to five year-olds, Lilly Krause of Fish Creek, “Polka Dots” (tempera); six to eight year-olds, Stella Kersebet of Ellison Bay, “Rainbow” (pastel); nine to 12 year-olds, Shelby Kahr of Ellison Bay, “Ephraim Paradise” (tempera).

The winning entries will be displayed at the Peninsula Art School, located at 3900 County Hwy F in Fish Creek, throughout the summer. The remaining works will be available for pick-up until June 21.
