Peninsula Art School’s Iron Casting Events Spark Creativity

Cast iron artistry, highlighted with the fiery, dramatic pour of molten iron, provides the theme for a workshop, an exhibition and a family-friendly event to benefit the art education programs at the Peninsula School of Art in Fish Creek.

Professional sculptors and art students of every skill level will join nationally recognized sculptor, iron pour coordinator and educator Teresa Lind for a four-day iron-casting workshop from September 29 – October 2.

Lind, an instructor at UW – Oshkosh, received her MFA from UW – Milwaukee, and studied sculpture at the Florence Academy of Art in Italy. The Iron Pour, which is included in the casting workshop, also provides opportunities for all ages to create iron tiles from etching original designs into premade sand molds. For a donation of $15 per person, individuals can participate in the festivities of the School’s Iron Pour Benefit on October 1 from 4 – 8 pm. In addition to the tile making and the nighttime pour, seasonal refreshments will be served and live music will be performed from 6 – 8 pm. Tiles will be cool enough for participants to take home that evening.

The free public opening reception for “All Fired Up: Contemporary Iron Sculpture” will be held from 5 – 7 pm during the October 1 Iron Pour Benefit. The exhibition explores the possibilities of iron as a sculptural medium with both figurative and abstract works on display.

Lind is a featured artist in “All Fired Up” and will be joined by seven other notable sculptors in the exhibition.
