Peninsula Music Festival Announces Scholarship Winner

The Peninsula Music Festival (PMF) has selected Matthew Burress, a senior at Gibraltar High School as the recipient of their college scholarship. Burress will be attending McNally Smith College of Music in Minneapolis/St. Paul in the fall.

Each year PMF awards a $3,000 scholarship to a graduating senior who desires to further his or her education in music. The recipient must be an outstanding music student, who has demonstrated his or her ability as a performer and has shown a sustained interest in music-related activities. Also, the student must major or minor in music while attending college.

The Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of PMF reviews the applications and selects a recipient. According to Sharon Grutzmacher, the Executive Director of PMF, “This is one of the hardest duties for the Executive Committee each year. The applicants are always outstanding and well rounded. The committee wishes that it had enough money each year to give to all the wonderful applicants.”

Burress has been an outstanding music student at Gibraltar School and in the community. Many people will remember him as the winner of Door County Idol one year ago and his performances in numerous Gibraltar Musicals. Additionally, Burress was the representative to Badger Boys State and has used his leadership skills as a counselor at church camps.

Burress will be honored at the Tuesday, August 19 concert of the Peninsula Music Festival. He and his family will attend as guests of the festival.
