Peninsula Music Festival Celebrates 64th Season

When the 64th season of the Peninsula Music Festival (PMF) opens Aug. 2, audiences will be treated to some new and exciting concerts. Each year there is an expectation from the audience to create bigger and better concerts, so this year Maestro Yampolsky has decided to switch it up with an accordion soloist, a double concerto, a concert comparing and contrasting the Vivaldi and Piazzolla Four Seasons and the world-renowned pianist Olga Kern.

“I feel the pressure to continue to create programs that satisfy our long-time loyal audience and still draw in new people. It is a challenge that I enjoy,” commented Music Director and Conductor Victor Yampolsky.

The 64th season is diverse in its offerings and continues the tradition of introducing new young talent to the festival audiences as well as bringing in big stars and audience favorites. It is also important to provide a variety of soloists. Everyone loves the piano concerts and there is a strong sampling of pianists including Boris Slutsky and Spencer Myer as well as Olga Kern. The Festival’s own amazing concert master, Igor Yuzefovich will be conductor and soloist for the Vivaldi and Piazzolla Four Seasons and the big surprise on the season, accordionist Alexander Sevastian, is sure to draw a new crowd to PMF.

This year, the choral concert on Aug. 13 will include a new chorus, the Madison Choral Project. Their 24 voices will join the PMF Chorus for a wonderful night of Mozart and Handel. A full program of great American music continues the Festival’s tradition of highlighting American composers on Aug. 16 and Richard Prior’s Cello Concerto will make its PMF debut on Aug. 4.

Violinist Elena Urioste will return for two concerts on Aug. 18 & 20 when she will be joined by cellist Nicholas Canellakis for the Brahms Concerto for Violin and Cello.

The 64th PMF season runs through Aug. 20. Concerts are held on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday in the Door Community Auditorium at 7:30 pm. Nine-concert subscriptions are still available. Single tickets are also available for all concerts and start at $35. Children and students are just $10. For tickets, call 920.854.4060, visit musicfestival.com, or stop by the PMF office at 10347 N. Water Street, Green Gables Shops, North Ephraim.
