Peninsula Music Festival is Now Accepting Applications for its College Scholarship

The Peninsula Music Festival (PMF) is currently accepting applications for its $3,000 college scholarship. Information and applications are available from the guidance and music departments of each of the Door County schools as well as musicfestival.com, click on Education and Community Engagement.

Each year PMF awards a $3,000 scholarship to a graduating senior who desires to further his or her education in music. The recipient must be an outstanding music student who has demonstrated his or her ability as a performer and has shown a sustained interest in music-related activities. Also, the student must major or minor in music while attending college.

Applicants must write an essay outlining his or her qualifications, including accomplishments in music, future plans, academic achievements, high school transcripts and any other information he or she feels is appropriate for this music scholarship. Letters of recommendation must be sent from a music professional and from the student’s high school principal. The Executive Committee of the Board of Directors then reviews the applications and selects a recipient. The PMF Scholarship is awarded for three years with $1,000 paid each year beginning with the sophomore year and continuing through the senior year. The recipient must send an annual update plus proof of continuing registration as a music student to continue receiving the scholarship. The deadline for applications is April 10 with notification of the recipient no later than May 8.

PMF also makes Summer Music Awards available to each school. These awards are given each spring to music students who are freshmen, sophomores or juniors. One award will be offered to students in each of the five Door County public schools. The purpose of the awards is to help defray the cost of music lessons or summer music camps. To be eligible, students must have demonstrated a sustained interest in music and commitment to further education in this field. The awards are given to a student suggested by their music teacher. Students interested in receiving Summer Music Awards should speak to their band and/or choir teachers. For more information visit musicfestival.com or call 920.854.4060.
