Peninsula Preschool Collaborates with The Ridges on Nature-Based Curriculum

The Ridges Sanctuary and Peninsula Preschool are thrilled to announce a new nature-based preschool collaboration for the 2017-18 school year. These two organizations have created the opportunity for the four-year-old Peninsula Preschool class to attend school at The Ridges one day per week. The classes in the fall and spring take place at the Ridges’ cabins in Baileys Harbor. The winter classes will be held at The Ridges Cook-Fuller Nature Center.

The Ridges environmental educator, Sheryl Honig, along with Peninsula Preschool teachers, Rylee Johnson and Stephanie LaHaye, have created a nature-based curriculum informed by principles of Nature Preschools and the objectives of the North American Association for Environmental Education. The essence of these approaches is to support the young child’s positive connection with the natural world. Activities primarily occur outdoors, and include free observation, guided observation, free play and story times. Activities are designed to ease children into nature and create a sense of wonder and respect for the various habitats and wildlife at The Ridges.
