Peninsula School of Art Offers Diverse Winter Programs

Peninsula School of Art hosts free Family Art Days monthly on the third Saturday, September through May. The next one will take place Feb. 15, 9 am – 12 pm (drop in anytime), with the theme of Surreal Circus. Expect melting clocks, apple-faced men and pipes that aren’t pipes! Pull back the curtain on your subconscious to try your hand at one of the many surrealist games and perhaps win your own art-starter kit.

The free Conversations on Creativity session on Feb. 19, 3-5 pm, will be “Good Art, Bad Art, Who Decides?” Enjoy a bit of humor, then watch a video of Steve Martin talking with Peter Schjeldahl, critic for the New Yorker, about artspeak, how Schjeldahl examines art works and the merits of bad art.

Open Studios will continue every Thursday, 5:30-8:30 pm, through April. Explore life drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics and metals in a communal setting that encourages creative conversation and knowledge sharing. This program is open to artists and makers of all levels who are interested in self-directed creation. The cost is $10 per night per person.
