Peninsula School of Art Releases Summer Youth Catalog

Students practice marching for the 2010 Fourth of July Parade at the Peninsula School of Art last summer.

The Peninsula School of Art in Fish Creek has released its 2011 Summer Studios for Young Artists catalog. The catalog contains information for 40 workshops in a variety of media and skill levels for students ages three-and-a-half to seventeen.

Due to the popularity of clay workshops across the age groups, this year’s curriculum has expanded from four to nine classes. These offerings will include both hand building and working on the potter’s wheel.

Other popular programs returning this year are the Animation Studios, which encompass traditional and digital techniques, as well as the multi-generational “Relate & Create” program held on Friday mornings.

Instructor Marina Lee will also be back to lead young artist’s participation in the Baileys Harbor Fourth of July parade. This year the theme is “Prehistoric Creatures.”

“Each year, the theme of the parade is different and involves many artistic disciplines,” said Karen Becker, director of curriculum. “It also becomes a moving art exhibit, with the crowd lining the parade route applauding the children’s efforts.”
