• Scams occur year-round, but the holidays are prime time for criminals to take advantage of preoccupied shoppers and merry-makers. Baylake Bank has offered three basic steps to avoid scammers:

– Stop: Do not respond immediately to voicemails, emails or text messages requesting personal information. Never provide personal information unless you have initiated a phone call and have verified the legitimacy of the phone number you are calling.

– Think: A legitimate financial institution will never request specific account information via phone, email or text message.

– Call: Call the number on bank statements, not the number in the voice message or email soliciting your information.

• Preparing a child for kindergarten just got easier with the launch of a new online kindergarten readiness program, If Not You, Who? (www.ifnotyouwho.org). The easy-to-follow, online curriculum offers 26 activities a month focused on the essential intellectual, social and physical skills needed for kindergarten readiness.

Though some studies have shown that less than half of children are ready when they enter kindergarten, approximately two-thirds of parents would like information about ways to support their child’s school readiness. To meet this need, three experienced and accomplished early childhood educators developed If Not You, Who? to provide parents with a calendar and curriculum of creative skill-building activities that address a child’s critical developmental needs.
