Why is it that some men are so homophobic?

Hot colors are IT! Sshi ka rocka! Sshi ka rocka! Sshi ka rocka! Intensity! Bah da BOOM! Bah da BAM! Cross that color wheel and slam together orange and pink and purple and bright green! Can you feel it! Owwwwwwwwwww! Size matters, too! Top contenders: White Gull Inn in Fish Creek, Village of Egg Harbor at the Village Hall, Hide Side Corner Store and Boutique in Fish Creek, The Cookery in Fish Creek, Stillwater’s Grill in Fish Creek, and Bliss in Sturgeon Bay! Kudos! Runner up: McKeefry and Yeomans in Ephraim! Congratulations! Over all (head-banging power chord, right now, please) super-star talent: Bay Breeze Resort in Ephraim! Wow, do these beds just hurt to look at! Baby! Exquisite pain! Party like a rock star! Yeow! Hats off, to the “competition!” Not a single garden listed is one we installed.

Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about community. I am living for the summer in beautiful Door County, as a member of the Door Shakespeare acting company.

Working in American Folklore Theatre’s (AFT) office two fall seasons ago, I received a call from a woman who, like many people who call our office, was interested in purchasing tickets for our show at Ephraim Village Hall.

Hello to all. It seems amazing that I have been living away from home for almost four months now. Time flies. When I first arrived here time seemed to movie agonizingly slow.

Well, we meet again everybody. As the Russians like to say, “to your health.” I have been living in Siberia for just about two months now. I have pretty much settled in with my host family, to the point of feeling comfortable enough to walk around in my underwear (hey, here everyone does it).

As you read this, I only hope the weather back home isn’t like the weather here in Siberia. This last week has been, yep, you guessed it, pretty crappy – cold with a slight freezing drizzle.

In a matter of hours I will be boarding an airplane and departing this country for the next 11 months. I have been constantly bombarded with the question by people who know my predicament, “Are you scared?” Hmmm, let me think about that… Heck yeah I’m scared! I am going to Siberia for the next 11 months of my life.

For a driver, there are few sounds worse than the screech of one’s exhaust system dragging along an unforgiving highway. And that, unfortunately, is just how my Door County summer began.
