Pesto Festo at Taste of Garden Door on Sept. 7

The Door County Master Gardeners have announced the judges for this year’s Pesto Festo at Taste of the Garden Door on Sept. 7 from 1 – 4 pm. Each year, a bountiful harvest of tasty vegetables and herbs provide a delicious adventure for visitors to The Garden Door, the Door County Master Gardener Association’s (DCMGA) educational display garden located at the UW Research Station. This annual event has gained quite a reputation for the tasting and collection of recipes and ideas.

This year’s judges for the Festo are: Leslie Gast, Todd Trimberger and Janice Thomas.

There are no rules governing recipe ingredients, so, let imaginations run wild – arugula, parsley, mint and rosemary are as welcome as basil for the “taste base” of pesto entries. Chefs may enter more than one pesto creation.

Please deliver entries of at least three (3) cups (in a disposable container) to the educational classroom at the UW Peninsular Agricultural Research Station, 4312 Hwy 42, from 10 – 11 am on Sept. 7, the day of the Taste of the Garden Door. No entries will be accepted once the judging begins. For entry forms, visit dcmga.org.

Other highlights for the day includes: a book signing with Lee Somerville, Chriss Daubner will demonstrate how to plant a picture frame garden and Mary Gehm will instruct how to make “botanical images.”

The Taste and Pesto Festo is free and open to the public. For more information visit dcmga.org. The UW Research Station is located at 4312 Highway 42 in Sturgeon Bay.
