Photography Duo in Gills Rock

Gills Rock Coffee will exhibit the works of Steven and Arlene Stanger beginning May 23. Local artists, both work in photography, but with extraordinarily diverse results.

Steven captures small, intimate sections of the subject matter he photographs, generally resulting in a non-representational depiction of the scene…an abstract rendering. He hopes to create a contemplative relationship between the photographer and the viewer. Self-taught, he has fully embraced the digitalization of photography.

Arlene’s interest in photography began many years ago when she took a darkroom class developing black and white photography in Monterey, California. She enjoys taking nature photographs with a variety of equipment, including film cameras, digital cameras, and most recently the iPhone.

Both Steven and Arlene are award-winning artists and have juried into the Hardy Gallery and The Miller Art Museum, among others.

Kris Franzke will also display her collection of coffee cup art.

All three artists will be among the 15 exhibiting in the Gills Rock ArtFest, Sept. 5 and 6. Gills Rock Coffee is located at 12625 Highway 42, in Gills Rock. For more information, call 920.854.9907.
