Pick a Candy Cane for a Cat

From now through the end of the year, the Door County Humane Society (DCHS) is using candy canes to help cats find new homes. Select a candy cane from the garland around the shelter’s front door to determine the discount off the regular $90 adoption fee, or to receive a special gift with a cat adoption. Executive Director Carrie Counihan explained, “There are more than 160 healthy, adoptable cats with us right now, and they deserve a new home just as soon as possible. The candy cane draw is a fun way to provide an extra incentive to those who are considering adding a new cat companion to their family.”

The adoption fee drawing occurs once an individual has an approved application on file. After approval, the potential adopter may pick a candy cane to discover what special deal they are eligible for immediately or for up to six months, the duration of the approval on their application.

The DCHS, located at 3475 County Road PD in Sturgeon Bay, is open for adoptions Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 12-4 pm. The shelter will be closed Dec. 24 and Dec. 31.
